Update March 2020: My love of Spikeo (affectionate name for this inanimate object) is known through all my friends, and over time many have tried it. At least 4 of my friends who have tried mine ending up buying one. Even people who think it looks terrifying have found it remarkably soothing. One thing: About a year into my relationship with Spikeo I bought another one to live at my parent’s house for when I have longer visits over the holidays. The new one was SO sharp — turns out that with daily use, the spikes get slightly dull over time. Eventually I felt like my original wasn’t packing the same punch, so bought a new one for myself about 18 months after the original purchase. My new one is gray, which is actually quite pretty and a little less garish. I would advise everyone to get new spikes every couple years or so if you want that signature OUCH with your pain relief.Original review:I have fibromyalgia and have spent hundreds of dollars on various pain remedies throughout the years. Most things haven't really helped, including physical therapy -- the only thing that would provide relief was Tylenol and scalding hot showers. This mat appears to be invented by a sadist and it definitely HURTS, but with regular use my pain has become much, much better. It also helps relieve pain when it happens, but I've found it to be more useful in reducing pain generally rather than addressing a particular pain spot.My best evidence of its effectiveness is that I get extremely thirsty after massages and the same thing happens when I lie on the mat for 20-40 minutes. I don't know what the thirst means (a quick Google says something about the lymphatic system?) but I take it as a sign that this mat actually does something for my knotted-up muscles.I love the mat so much that I made the following meme. I hope it helps in your decision on whether to purchase this.
So I bought this for anxiety and stress relief. I love it! Laying straight on my back is often something that helps when I feel my stress getting too high. I've been looking at trying a mat like this for awhile and when I found one that was like new at half the cost of this already cheap one I jumped on it. In just one use I already feel some anxiety relief (and more than just laying on the ground). The sensory input of the points really helps!Obviously, be smart. Your first use should not be bare back jumping down on the thing. I started with a tshirt and felt the pillow on my bare neck and then quickly took off my shirt as I had a camisole on. I then focused on my breathing and relaxed. Start with a tshirt, then lighter shirt, then bare skin.If you're one that likes weighted blankets than this is another sensory input that you might like and even at the full price is worth it! As we all know anxiety medication only goes so far and often it's our lifestyle and coping skills that make the biggest impact!Marker is to help with understanding the size of everything.
Reviewing in real time. It’s 1:18I’m currently on my mat.I got real bold after having used it for a couple of minutes in my thin t shirt. I stripped, covered in a blanket and am now in straight contact with my mat.The kids ran in after hearing my response.Lawdhamucy!!!I’m certain it’s impaling me and that this mat will be stuck in my back when I sit up.I bet it won’t bleed until I pull out the fitty leven lil knives in my back. It’s like a thousand jealous girlfriends. LolDesperately trying to distract myself, I’m leaving this review and listening to a podcast. At this point, I’m certain any relief y’all feel is because other pain pales in comparison to this needle-bed.I got the green one cuz it was cheaper. Now I’ll going to look like a turtle because I know it’s never coming off. It’s not very pretty but it’s clearly effective.Every needle doing his violent, stabby job.1:23. My back is warming. It hurts less.1:26 hot, pulsating... less unpleasant!!!How do y’all sleep on this thing tho?Ole BDSM behinds...1:31 relax... breathe... still uncomfortable... the pulsing is spreading...1:33 I no longer feel individual spikes. Hmmm.Yo.Getting up hurts. Like a mf.And my back tension has melted. My shoulders feel an inch lower.Holy smokes.1:46 notable more relaxed. This thing is serious.Doing it again tonight.May add handcuffs
I got this because I had a sore and tense neck and upper back and can't afford regular massages. I was skeptical when I unpacked this because it didn't seem like anything special, and the color seemed duller than pictured.Looks are deceiving, so I tried it out right away. Reviews suggest that beginners start with their clothes on, but I hardly felt anything that way, so I went bare-back immediately. Different strokes for different folks! The initial feeling was a bit like a back scratch, like it felt good. After a few minutes, it started to burn, but in a good way. I found myself closing my eyes and relaxing. When I got up, I could definitely feel the difference!I have tried it both in bed and on the floor and both are effective, but especially on the floor. (That's what she said?) I've even caught my cat resting on it. :PIt came with a small manual with pictures of how this can work in other positions too, like sitting, or on your stomach, thighs, or feet. I haven't tried any of those, but if I do, I'll update :)
I purchased this out of desperation. I've had sleep issues for years now, but am too stubborn to see a doctor and just never wanted to end up hooked on a sleep aid. I practically lived off melatonin but it's started to not work anymore and I needed something else. This seemed harmless, so I figured I'd give it a shot.I use it before bed, for 20-40 minutes. I usually read a book to pass the time. I was skeptical that this would work for me - it sounded weird, and I figured I would try it for a week or two and that it wouldn't work and I'd end up throwing it away. Now I use it every night, and theres no lasting grogginess that always seemed to come with melatonin or zzquil. Just normal happy sleep. It also helps with muscle tension which is a huge plus. I'd guess this mat works differently for everyone, but it's been amazing beneficial for me.
